History of Marian Estates

A Legacy of Care

Marian Estates’ story began in the peaceful setting of Sublimity when Father Scherbring of St. Boniface created a home for the elderly and ill population. Throughout the coming years the community grew slowly, until the 1970s when the Sisters of Servite sold the Marian Home to Maurice Reece (Reece). Maurice’s step-father came to the Marian Home when it was a small 57 bed nursing home. Reece thought so highly of the care provided to his step-father and the community’s mission that in 1975 he purchased the property and immersed himself in the long-term care industry. Reece’s goal was to put residents and their needs first. Reece wanted to maintain a commitment to excellence in providing compassionate personalized healthcare while growing a successful business. He eventually expanded the Marian Estates property to a 38-acre retirement community complete with Independent Living, Assisted Living and Rehabilitation. With our roots planted firmly in the history of our community and a legacy of heartfelt care for those who live here, Marian Estates has become a premier choice for retirement and continued care in the Willamette Valley.

Maurice Eugene Reece (Founder) 1939-2012

Once met, never forgotten. Rest in Peace.  “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”  Luke 12:13

Throughout his life Reece was a dedicated educator, developer, nursing home administrator and business owner. His industrious vision and care for others made Marian Estates what it is today. Reece had a truly larger than life presence that made everyone around him feel special and cared for. His inspiring legacy, tremendous energy and love for life will carry on through the lives of all he has touched. His tremendous spirit is best pronounced in his life’s work at Marian Estates “where my best friends live.” He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Jan L. Baldwin, who continues to privately and independently operate Marian Estates in his stead as the private, family-owned, complete retirement community Maurice always desired.
